Alert/H.J. Res. 90 (W.T.O.) Debate & Vote

June 21, 2000

Dear friend of liberty,

Don't let up the pressure!  There's still time to urge a "yes" vote on
H.J. Res. 90 (U.S. withdrawal from the World Trade Organization).
That's because when the two-hour debate ended just after noon
today, the roll-call vote was rescheduled for later tonight.

The vote was delayed because the House members who spoke in
favor of  H.J. Res. 90 so clearly won the debate.  The oppositon
realized they needed time to rebuild their ranks.  The vote has been
delayed until around 9:00 p.m. ET tonight.  Some unsuspected
member even came out in favor of H.R. Res. 90 (one of them
actually quoted from our fact sheet we sent to House offices).

The debate on this issue could have been 20 hours, but we had to fight
to get just two hours.  Even then, at 11 p.m. last night, the start of
the debate was moved from the customary 10:00 a.m. opening to
9:00 a.m. - when fewer members of the House would be present.

Now, we need to double our efforts to win votes.  Please urge your
U.S. representative to vote "yes" on H.J. Res. 90. Call your
representative by dialing the U.S. Capitol switchboard at
202-224-3121 or send your representative a brief message
via E-mail by going to http://www.libertystudy.org and click
Communicate at the top of the page.  Please ask a friend to do the
same.

The opportunity on this issue comes once only every five years.
